Raphael Varane keen to join up with Manchester United for pre-season

According to ABC Sports (h/t The Express), Raphael Varane appears to have made up his mind to make the move to Manchester United. The French ace is keen to join up with the Red Devils for pre-season.

The Red Devils are in need of a new defender and have identified the French international as a priority signing. With his contract set to expire next summer, Real Madrid appear to be ready to cash in this summer. And if you are a betting person, check this website and place your bets on Woodward completing another high profile signing this summer.

Having landed Jadon Sancho and Tom Heaton, United are now ready to bring in a centre-back. Varane appears to be the man and they hope he will form a solid pairing with skipper Harry Maguire at the heart of the defence.

Varane is one of the best defenders in world football and at 28, he is in the prime of his career. He is ready for a new challenge after a decade of covering himself in glory at the Bernabeu. Bringing him in would be nothing short of a coup.

According to the report, the player has already agreed to personal terms with United. This has a sense of deja vu to it given what happened with Sergio Ramos in the past. However, unlike the Spaniard, Varane does not appear to be drumming up interest from United to seek better terms at Real.

Varane is not the only La Liga defender on the Red Devils radar. Villarreal ace Pau Torres is another player who is being monitored. He is currently with the Spanish team at the Euros as they prepare to take on Italy in the semi-finals.

It has been evident for some time that United need a new centre-back. In Varane, they will be getting just that, an elite level player, who is capable of playing at the top level on a consistent basis. It remains to be seen how we get the deal over the line.
