Earlier this month, The Telegraphrevealed that manager Ole Gunnar Solskjae craves for a center back and could move to hire the services of Raphael Varane.

More recently, reports indicate that Man Utd are ready to back Ole to sign the Real Madrid star, who is one of the most decorated defenders in the world.

According to The Star, Ed Woodward is willing to back Solskjaer in the summer transfer window to sign the likes of Varane, Haaland and Sancho. Our focus is on the French international, who should be the most affordable keeping in view his current contract situation.

Reports suggest that Haaland is valued at around £154million (ESPN) and Sancho could cost at least £100million in the summer (The Express). On the other hand, Varane, who will be out of contract in 2022, is rated (MD) at £59.7million (70 million euros).

The Les Bleus star left Lens to move to the Bernabeu when Jose Mourinho was in charge of the club. Since then, the former Ligue 1 star has won every big trophy, domestic and European, with the Los Blancos and also four FIFA Club World Cup titles.

For the senior national side, he was the key member of the side that won the World Cup in 2018, he helped his team keep 4 clean sheets and also scored the opening goal in the last eight victory (2-0) against Uruguay.

In the opening WC 2022 qualification fixture, the World Champions could only get a single point vs Ukraine and Varane featured for full 90 minutes. Next up, they will face Kazakhstan tomorrow.

At the moment, Man Utd have the second best offensive record in the Premier League but they need to be rock solid at the back to challenge the Sky Blues for the title. Solskajer needs a leader in his back-line and that is why he is craving for a top center back.

Varane, who has the quality, experience and the success at both club and country level, would be a top class addition if somehow Ole can get his signing done.
