Manchester United will still go after Jules Kounde amid Varane interest
According to transfer news from Metro, Manchester United are still looking to go after Jules Kounde despite their pursuit of Raphael Varane. United are close to agreeing on a deal for Varane but they won’t stop there. Kounde is also of interest to them and they will keep at him even if a deal for Varane is done.
By now, it is no secret that United are in the market for a new central defender. A capable partner for Harry Maguire has been the need for a while now as United try to close the gap between the top sides. The club have shortlisted quite a few names from La Liga and among them are Raphael Varane and Jules Kounde.
United have been in talks with Real Madrid over a transfer for Varane for a while now. The general consensus is that an agreement can be reached soon over a transfer. However, that will not end United’s pursuit of another defender as they plan to go after Jules Kounde next.
Kounde is an extremely promising player who appears to have a bright future ahead of him. He has already won the Europa League with Sevilla last year. The French youngster has been in excellent form for Sevilla and is a regular for Julian Lopetegui’s side. Although, chances are low that United pay the £56m Sevilla have asked for him
In all honesty, it’s hard to see both Varane and Kounde walk in. United don’t really need another name if they can get their hands on Varane. Add to that, Kounde will need a rather expensive outlay. That is something United could do without. Instead, they would be the wiser if they spent it on players in positions required.
