Man City are monitoring Lille centre-back Sven Botman, who is also on the radars of PL rivals Liverpool and Man United. U21 Netherlands international made his way to Les Dogues last summer after failing to make the grade at the Dutch club.
Since arriving, though, Botman slotted in seamlessly with the French club and ended up playing a pivotal role in their surprise Ligue 1 trophy triumph in the 2020/21 campaign.
Sven’s physicality and ball-playing skills have put him on the radars of several top teams around Europe, with the likes of Liverpool, Real Madrid taking an interest, along with the Red Devils. At the same time, Man City have also joined the bandwagon of the 21-year-old defender’s admirers now.
As for the Red Devils, like Liverpool, they too have strengthened their defence with Raphael Varane ready to sign from Real Madrid imminently. With Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly available, the Norwegian manager seems sorted about his defensive options even if Axel Tuanzebe leaves on loan.
However, with Eric Bailly reportedly pushing for an exit, that could open up a spot in the back-line, considering as Phil Jones is not part of the plans at Man United, which would make the Dutch defender an option worth looking at.
If they want to make a move, the Red Devils will now have to battle arch-rivals Man City as well, whose interest in the centre-back also comes out as a bit puzzling. Indeed, the Spanish tactician already has four PL-proven centre-backs at his disposal in John Stones, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and Nathan Ake.
