Red Devils are targeting rising South American winger Facundo Pellistri, according to reports. The 18-year-old star is an emerging talent in his home country of Uruguay and is managed by Diego Forlan at Penarol. Forlan is a former team-mate of Man United manager and will be well versed on the talented forward.

Red Devils are keen to sign Facundo, but Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will seek advice from Diego Forlan about the possible transfer. The Norwegian manager often uses his contacts to suss out possible targets and the Red Devils coach trusts the opinion of former Man United attacker Diego Forlan.

Penarol are resigned to losing Pellistri at some stage and there is a £10m release clause in his deal. The Uruguayan winger is lightning quick and two-footed and has attracted the attention of a host of top teams.

Red Devils will face competition from Real Madrid and Man City who are tracking Facundo’s progress, with the star under deal until 2022. Facundo speaks English and has a Spanish passport, but is happy at Penarol and far from the finished article.

But Penarol would find it difficult to turn down a big offer and Man United are eager to snap up young talent. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has played down the possibility of any big transfers this summer but did outline what he is looking for in a footballer.

‘You have a certain DNA and identity when you play for Man United or work for Man United, it doesn’t matter if you’re in the canteen or laundry or in admin or on the pitch, you’ve got to be a certain type of character for me,’ the Norwegian manager said.
