Manchester United have been liked with Kalidou Koulibaly for a very long time and once again, the African star is in the focus.

According to The Indepdendent, the Red Devils are ready to battle vs Man City to sign the Senegalese international. Inter Milan’s Skriniar is in the lime light as well as both clubs look to improve their back-line.

The renowned British source have mentioned that Guardiola has not replaced Kompany as yet and therefore, he is in the market for a top central defender. However, things could get complicated if City remain banned from Europe next term.

On the other hand, Miguel Delaney claims that Koulibaly has long been at the top of the Red Devils’ wish-list and due to the coronavirus outbreak, the 29-year-old could be lured from Napoli for a fee of £70million.

The former Genk man is arguably the best and the most consistent defender in the Serie A and he has the quality to strengthen any back-line in the world.

However, the question is, do United really need to sign a central defender this summer?

Last summer, we broke the bank to sign English center half, Harry Maguire, from Leicester City. The Three Lions defender is currently the most expensive defender in the world and the captain at Old Trafford.

Last season, after 33 league games, we had already conceded 43 goals. This time around, we have only let in 33 goals. Therefore, since the arrival of Maguire (and Wan-Bissaka), the defense has largely improved.

Not to forget, we have the likes of Lindelof, Baily, Jones, Tuanzebe and Smalling (loan) for the central defense and therefore, our Norwegian boss should focus on reinforcing other key areas this summer.
