According to The Express, Manchester United could be set for a bidding war in their pursuit of Bournemouth star David Brooks.

The Welshman has attracted attention following the Cherries’ relegation from the Premier League. He could join a number of stars who have already left the Vitality Stadium this summer.

Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser have joined Newcastle United. They follow Nathan Ake and Aaron Ramsdale, who joined Manchester City and Sheffield United respectively.

Although Bournemouth are keen to keep hold of Brooks, they have placed an asking price of £50million on the Welsh Footballer of the Year.

Brooks is coming off an injury-hit season that saw him make just nine appearances throughout the campaign.

This pales into comparison when compared to his 2018/19 campaign. Brooks enjoyed a brilliant debut season in the top-flight and put up numbers comparable to that of James Maddison.

His tally of seven goals and five assists during that season was just shy of the Leicester City star. Maddison made just two assists more while playing six games more.

United will have to contend against both Tottenham Hotspur and Leicester City, who are also keen on Brooks.

While the prospect of Spurs having the finances to make a bid is debatable, Leicester are flush with the cash they received for Ben Chilwell.

The Red Devils are still keen on signing Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho. However, his £108m asking price remains an issue and United could look elsewhere.

While Brooks is a cheaper option to Sancho, it remains to be seen if United will make a move for him.
