Manchester United hope to land Real Madrid defender Sergio Reguilon after submitting an opening offer of £26.8 million for the Spaniard.

The 23-year-old spent last season on loan with Sevilla and his displays have attracted attention from a host of clubs across the continent, including Juventus and Tottenham.

Chelsea pinpointed the left-back as an alternative to defender Ben Chilwell if a deal failed to materialise for the Leicester City ace and it is clear that he has no future at Real Madrid after Zinedine Zidane purchased his compatriot Ferland Mendy for £42m.

Luke Shaw cemented his spot as first choice left-back last campaign with a period of impressive showings but the injury-prone England international is likely to miss the start of the campaign with an injury that kept him out of the UEL knockout stages.

With that in mind, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s keen to begin in a left-back and Spanish publication Sport state United have tabled a bid of £26.8 million for Reguilon.

Real Madrid are mulling over the proposal and will decide in the next few days whether to sell the defender to the Red Devils or to allow him to leave on loan for a further campaign when the La Liga giants would hope to sell him for a bigger sum in a year’s time.

So impressive were Sergio’s performances on loan for Sevilla, the star earned a call-up to the Spain national side and Real may feel his stock will never be higher if they are to sell the left-back.
