The Red Devils have done some excellent work in the transfer market under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. To take us to that next level, further quality signings must be made.

Today, a new name has been thrown into the ring; Thomas Lemar. It’s quite a strong story from ESPN, too, who state that United have already met with the 24-year-old’s representatives over the past week.

The French international wants to leave current club, Atletico Madrid, where the style of play is not suited to his qualities. Simply put, Lemar isn’t playing an awful lot of football right now and he wants out.

What’s interesting is that Lemar was on United’s list of targets following an exceptional 2016/17 season for AS Monaco. In the end, the winger would move to the Spanish capital in a deal worth £63m…

With three years left on his current deal, though, United know Lemar wouldn’t be cheap. However, they do believe that his left foot and creativity could be an asset next season.

I do like Lemar and what he could offer, however, he predominantly plays from off the left. I’d much prefer to see United go for a right-winger, say, Jadon Sancho. After all, Marcus Rashford was in fine form from the left-flank before his back injury.

Lemar would probably cost at least £70-80m as Atletico look to protect their asset, too. Honestly, that sort of money could be used much more wisely elsewhere, particularly as you’re not sure how Lemar would adapt to life in English football.
