Manchester United were in talks to secure the signing of Ousmane Dembele on deadline day.

Reports suggest that the Red Devils were even able to agree a loan fee and accepted to pay the player’s high wages. Still, the deal ended up collapsing.

According to The Mail, Barcelona wanted to offload the French international to Old Trafford so as to raise funds to sign Memphis Depay from Lyon but Man Utd were only looking to lure the player on loan.

The desperate Catalan giants then accepted to send him on loan. The Red Devils secured a loan fee and agreed to pay his salary in full.

However, the renowned British source have mentioned that the move collapsed when the La Liga giants asked Dembele to agree a contract extension until 2023.

The Les Bleus winger’s current contract with the Catalan giants is due to expire in 2022 and he earns wages worth £215,000-a-week star (The Sun). Dembele has been highly injury prone since moving to the Nou Camp but when fit, he is a top quality attacker.

He is still 23 and Barcelona wanted to extend his contract to gain a larger fee from his sale next year if he had a strong season in the Premier League.

In the end, the World Cup winning star refused to put pen to paper and the greedy Spaniards were neither able to send him on loan nor managed to sign Depay.

Man United still have until 16th October to improve the squad in the domestic transfer window. In your view, who should Solskjaer sign to strengthen the right wing position?
