Manchester United are extremely confident of completing a club record £135m move for La Liga giants Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez in the summer.
The Spaniard has been on the club’s transfer radar since Louis van Gaal was at the helm at the club but United have twice been rebuffed in an effort to land the midfielder.
The 25-year-old signed an astonishing nine-year deal with Los Rojiblancos in 2017 but it includes a £135m buy-out clause and the Daily Star state United are ready to trigger it.
United watched Niguez in action versus Liverpool at Anfield early this month and were impressed with the Spaniard’s performance as the UEFA Champions League holders were knocked out by Diego Simeone’s side.
Saul would arrive as Paul Pogba’s replacement and the deal is dependent on United offloading the Frenchman in the summer.
Real Madrid and Juventus are both interested in the World Cup winner but the Red Devils want around £120m for his services.
Ole will then be given the full amount of that money to spend on Saul and it’s claimed the Norwegian tactician is excited by the prospect of pairing the star with Bruno Fernandes in the Red Devils’ midfield.
The Portuguese star has made a sensational start to life at the club but Solskjaer remains keen on strengthening his midfield.
The 47-year-old manager is interested in Ajax star Donny van de Beek but it’s feared the Dutchman prefers a transfer to Real Madrid.
He would become one of the highest-paid players at Old Trafford but the 20-times English champions would have more breathing space with high earner Paul off the books.
