Manchester United defender Chris Smalling is reportedly pushing for a summer exit as he has no desire to play for the club again.
The England international spent the previous campaign on loan with AS Roma and he was hugely impressive in his 37 appearances across all competitions.
Roma have been unable to strike a permanent deal after being put off by the £20m price tag, but Smalling has not given up on rejoining the Serie A side.
According to Manchester Evening News, Smalling is eager to make the return to the Giallorossi this summer and he has told the Red Devils that he has no plans of staying put.
Roma chief Guindo Fienga has apparently travelled to England to hold fresh talks with the Red Devils and there is the optimism that the club can negotiate a lesser fee for the defender’s transfer.
Tottenham Hotspur were previously credited with an interest in Smalling due to the presence of former United head coach Jose Mourinho. They have not made any approach to sign him.
