Manchester United Football Club has today confirmed that Scott McTominay has signed a new long-term contract, keeping him at the club until 2025. The deal also contains the option for a further year.

The midfielder, now 23, has come through the ranks at Old Trafford, making his big breakthrough in 2017. The Scotland international has made 75 first-team appearances since – and is now in the form of his life.

Credit to the Red Devils for presumably upping his terms and convincing McTominay to sign what is in effect, a six-year deal, meaning United don’t have to worry about his future for the best part of the decade.

Scott McTominay said:

“Whilst I understand that we all have so many other things to think about at the moment, I’m so happy to sign this contract and play a part in the future ahead for this team.

“All I have ever known is United and I hope that my passion for the club shows every time I go onto the pitch. I’ll continue to give everything for this club whenever I pull on the shirt.

“I want to thank the manager for the faith he has shown in me and everyone at the club that has helped me to get where I am today. I’m looking forward to finishing this season on a high and hopefully achieving our aims.”

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer added:

“Scott has done tremendously well since I joined and has been a vital part of our midfield. He brings determination, tenacity and skill to the game and we know that Scott’s attributes will be a major asset to the squad over the coming years.

“As we always say the Academy is the bedrock of the club and having come through the system everyone knows that Scott has shown the exact mentality that you need to succeed at Manchester United.  I look forward to seeing his continued improvement in the years to come.”

From that derby-day strike, to those impeccable midfield performances, McTominay is enjoying a stellar season. Solskjaer has definitely improved McTominay’s game, with the Lancaster-born-lad adding goals from the middle of the park, while showing that he can be a real presence.

A true box-to-box man who’ll cover every blade of grass, McTominay feels like the perfect player to sit in-behind, allowing both Bruno Fernandes and Paul Pogba to flourish further up the field.

The good news for United is that McTominay will only continue to improve. He’s a young man who is full of grit, determination and desire to succeed. It’s why he has been a mainstay in a much-changed Reds team over the last twelve months, which is a testament to his hard work.
