According to the latest reports, Manchester United are looking to sign a wonderkid who has been described as the ‘next Messi.’

Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has reignited the club’s move for Monaco ace Pietro Pellegri, two years after Jose Mourinho tried to sign him at Old Trafford. The forward was a target for the club in 2018 following his rise to prominence at Genoa and United held extensive talks with his agent over a move to north west England.

However, Pellegri felt a switch to Monaco would aid his development and he joined the Ligue 1 giants for a fee of around £21m, making him the second most expensive 16-year-old of all time. The 19-year-old is yet to become a regular at Monaco but the club retain high hopes for his future, which is a sentiment that Manchester United clearly share.

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, United hope to exploit the teenager’s lack of first team chances by testing Monaco’s resolve to keep him this summer.

United have been following the forward since the age of 16 and he would fit the profile of signings that Solskjaer has made since his appointment at Old Trafford, in that he is young, promising and yet to fulfil his potential.

The Red Devils are targeting Jadon Sancho, Jack Grealish, Jude Bellingham and Eduardo Camavinga this summer.
