Ronald Koeman is all set to be announced as the head coach of Barcelona following the sacking of Quique Setien.
Barcelona encountered a trophyless season for the first time since 2007 and want to change things around.
Spanish media outlet Diario Sport now cite a report from Le10 Sport that van de Beek – who played under Koeman at international level for the Netherlands – is the club’s main transfer target.
The 23-year-old has been strongly linked with a move away from the Eredivisie side after having displayed some impressive performances for the Dutch champions in the past two seasons.
The Dutch midfielder was one of the highlights in the 2018/19 season as Ajax stunned Europe by coming within one minute of the Champions League final. Unlike teammates Frenkie de Jong and Matthijs de Ligt, he ultimately remained at Ajax this season and still continues to be an integral part of their side. With his other teammates Nicolas Tagliafico and Hakim Ziyech leaving this summer, van de Beek is set to leave too.
He’s been linked to Juventus, Manchester United and Real Madrid until now but a call from Koeman could certainly change things. A reunion with Frenkie de Jong will be the first thing he’ll cherish.
Koeman wans to revamp the squad and Barcelona could easily sway him away from Manchester United.
Time to look at other players, Ed!
