Manchester United are allegedly keen on landing Metz’s Pape Sarr.

The highly-rated youngster won his first cap for Senegal in an African Cup of Nations qualifier versus Congo last month, with the call up coming only four months after Sarr made his league debut for Metz.

According to The Sun, Pape has been scouted regularly by a number of top European clubs – including United, who are leading the race for his signature.

Reports in France earlier in April indicated that Nice sporting director Julien Fournier was also interested in landing Sarr.

However, it is understood that the 18-year-old box-to-box midfielder favours a transfer to a bigger club.

Metz manager Frederic Antonetti played his cards close to his chest when quizzed about Sarr’s future last weekend.

‘We already have a lot of players who are in demand for the future.’ said Frederic.

Sarr signed a five-year contract with Metz last year but they now face a struggle to retain the services of one of their prized assets.

The sought-after player has scored twice for his side this campaign from a total of 18 appearances.

It could be a busy summer in the transfer window for Manchester United – they are also said to be keen on signing Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Andre Silva.
