Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand believes Everton attacker Dominic Calvert-Lewin would be a ‘fantastic’ signing in the summer should the Red Devils fail to sign Erling Haaland or Harry Kane.

The 24-year-old has enjoyed his finest campaign to date with the Toffees and is the club’s leading scorer with 19 goals in 32 matches his term.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to sign a new striker this summer, regardless of whether the board manage to convince Edinson Cavani to stay for a further one year.

United are interested in Dortmund sensation Haaland and England skipper Kane but both players are rated at around £150 million and there is plenty of interest in the duo.

Dominic, by contrast, is valued at around £80 million by Everton and Ferdinand believes he’d be a ‘fantastic’ acquisition.

‘Listen Dominic Calvert-Lewin for me I love him,’ Rio told the FIVE YouTube channel. ‘I’ve watched a lot of Everton this year and he’s one that unnerves defenders.

‘He’s not one you want to play against week in, week out. He’s aggressive, he attacks the ball. I think he’d be a fantastic signing for Manchester United.

‘It’s one out of left field a little bit but I think he’d have a big impact. He’d get on the end of the things created by Fernandes, Pogba, Rashford, Greenwood etc.’
