Manchester United are reportedly giving serious consideration to a summer move for Bayer Leverkusen winger Leon Bailey.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants to add a playmaker to his ranks ahead of next campaign – with the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jack Grealish among the big money players linked with United.

However, Sportsmail understands Leon is emerging as a transfer target for the 20-time English champions.

Bayer value the 22-year-old star, who has three years left on his existing deal, at around £40m – a significantly cheaper price than Grealish and Sancho.

And with the financial constraints caused by the COVID-19 crisis, Bailey is being regarded as a more cost-effective alternative.

The 22-year-old ace is naturally left-footed, but is comfortable with both feet and has the pace to burn, which is an obvious attraction for Ole.

Bailey’s comfort with either foot means Leon can play on either wing or in a central attacking role.

The fact Bailey has UCL experience is also an attraction for the United chief. Bailey has scored seven goals for Leverkusen thus far this season.

Sportsmail revealed that the club’s number one target Sancho looks set to stay at BVB for another season with the German side refusing to budge on his £100 million asking price.

Amid financial uncertainty posed by the pandemic, the club are unwilling to go that high and while they are in a stronger position than most tams, they would prefer to spread their money out across a host of stars.
