Manchester United are linked with numerous midfielders and once again the name of Florentino Luis is in the lime light.

According to ESPN, Man United consider move to sign the Benfica starlet, they even had discussions with the player’s agent in the January transfer window and have inquired about the player consistently.

The famous source claim that the likes AC Milan, Bayer Leverkusen, Leeds and Betis are also interested in the 20-year-old. His agent said:

“Florentino is one of the highest rated young defensive midfielders in Europe, so there is a lot of interest in him at the moment.

“There has been a lot of talk about Milan, but I can tell you that there is a lot of competition for his services, with clubs in England, Germany and Spain also following him closely.”

The young play breaker was a key member of the Portugal squad that won the Euro U-17 four years back and Euro U-19 two years ago.

In the current campaign, the youngster has so far featured in 7 league games for Benfica and helped his team keep 5 clean sheets (conceded just 3 goals). However, he has not featured in the Premeira Liga since last November because the Portuguese giants have preferred Julian Weigl in the defensive midfield role.

At Old Trafford, United need to sign a specialist play breaker. Nemanja Matic was lured by Jose Mourinho from Chelsea but the Serbian international is now past his best and rarely starts for us.

Our defense has largely improved since the arrival of Maguire and Wan-Bissaka. So, the addition of a quality holding midfield star would further strengthen things.

The question – Is Florentino Luis good enough for Man United? His current contract with Benfica will expire in 2024 and as per The Mail, it has a huge clause of £90million.
