Just a few days ago, we covered a story from the Manchester Evening News, in which it was claimed that Manchester United had ‘identified’ Velez Sarsfield youngster Thiago Almada as a possible Jadon Sancho alternative.
Well, shortly after that initial story broke, Fichajes had their say and offered us an intriguing update on the future of Almada.
According to their report, United have ‘opened negotiations’ with Velez Sarsfield about signing the talented 19-year-old, who currently has a £20m release clause in his contract.
The midfielder, who can also play has a winger has been linked with an Arsenal move too, so the Red Devils won’t have it all their own way. However, you’d like to think that if United’s interest was firm enough, they’d beat out The Gunners pretty comfortably…
Look, I’m not going to sit here and tell you that I’ve watched Almada play on countless occasions and he’s the best thing since sliced bread. However, we know what Solskjaer is trying to achieve – he’s looking to turn this squad into a younger one, that can compete for a decade as opposed to a season or two.
The Baby Faced Assassin has made five signings so far, all of which have been successful. Until he gives us a reason not to trust him in that regard, then we’ve no reason to doubt any of his transfer targets.
At £20m, it’s a risk worth taking, though I’d imagine Almada would need some time to adjust and adapt to life in the Premier League if a move materialises.
