According to this current Manchester United squad member, the Red Devils may have found their new Robin Van Persie this season.
Robin van Persie arrived at Old Trafford after Sir Alex Ferguson’s squad had been pipped to the Premier League title on the last day by arch rivals Manchester City.
The squad’s morale was low. They needed extra quality and for someone to lift them out of their predicament.
Robin van Persie did exactly just that. His influence on the pitch was twofold. As well as his charisma, van Persie’s innate ability to find the back of the net played a pivotal role in helping the Red Devils reclaim the Premier League title.
Mason Greenwood is on the fringes of his professional career, but there is already a lot of hype surrounding the 18 year old.
He has become a favourite at Old Trafford with his trademark finishes and exuberant energy.
And according to current Man United star Luke Shaw who was also teammates with Robin van Persie at the club, Mason Greenwood is similar to the Red Devils’ flying Dutchman and could emulate him in the future.
Luke Shaw told the club’s official website via Manchester Evening News, that he can see Greenwood ‘turn into another van Persie or a player of similar style’ in the future.
That is high praise from the United left back, but it is easy to see why Shaw has made the comparisons.
There are vestiges of similarity between van Persie and Greenwood. The 18 year old has a similar shooting style and has already scored goals which were reminiscent of van Persie.
