Sporting CP are hoping to ‘drive away’ interest from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s Manchester United in Nuno Mendes by signing the ace up to a new deal.

That’s according to A Bola, who cover the teen’s situation and Sporting’s determination to get their player signed to a fresh, improved contract.

Nuno has broken through to the first-team this campaign with several impressive displays, which, as is usually the case, have not been missed by those around Europe.

He signed a new contract until June 2025 in the summer, and that includes a €45 million buy-out clause, but Leoes have made it a ‘priority issue’ to sort out a contract extension.

Part of that is because of the interest from the likes of the Red Devils, who A Bola say may ‘back out’ of their intention to land the player should his release clause exceed the current price.

That’s something Sporting CP are aware of, especially as the star is currently only earning €14,000, a figure that doesn’t fit a player who already proves all his talent.

Thus far, though, there has been no meeting between Mendes’ agent Miguel Pinho Frederico Varandas and that gives hope to the likes of the Red Devils.

Elsewhere, Manchester United have allegedly identified Villarreal central defender Pau Torres as a transfer target in the upcoming window.

A report from TEAMtalk outlines how the Red Devils are keen to beat a host of other interested sides to a deal for the Spain international.

It is understood that United are ready to offer some fringe players in exchange for Pau, with Eric Bailly mentioned as a potential makeweight.
